Dave Eggers is an American writer, publisher, and editor. He has written several national bestsellers including What is the What and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and studied to be a journalist at the University of Illinois. When he was 21, both his parents died of cancer and he was forced to raise his 8-year old brother, Christopher. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and founded a magazine called Might. He is now married and has a child.In 2002 he published his first book, You shall know our velocity, and he has a magazine called The Believer. Dave Eggers focuses his writing on injustices of the American legal system, and searches for people's stories that can be the basis of a novel. He also created a foundation called 826 National, a non-profit tutoring, publishing, and writing organization.
